My favorite face palette
I picked up this adorable palette from Benefit back in November and it has been my go-to item for blush, bronzer, and highlight since. All of the shades are gorgeous and blend out nicely. I also love that the palette has a mirror and think the pink packaging is just the cutest.
This was supposed to be limited edition, but you can currently get it at Sephora for $20! It includes minis of the Hoola bronzer, Galifornia blush, and Watt’s Up highlighter.
The powders are highly pigmented, but they’re easy to sheer out on the skin. The Watt’s Up highlighter is normally in a stick formula, so this poured cream version takes a bit of warming up with your fingers. After a few seconds, it looks really natural on the skin and isn’t glittery at all. I also use Hoola in the crease and Watt’s Up on the lid for a quick and easy eyeshadow look.
All in all I have been loving this palette and highly recommend it! What’s your favorite face palette?
Here are a few products I finished up and really liked along with a bunch of items I’m decluttering because they don’t work for me.
What have you finished up lately?
I’m obsessed with orange
It was surprisingly warm this weekend, which was a lovely break from the 20 degree temps we usually have in January. I decided to celebrate with a colorful, casual look.
I’m slowly amassing orange clothing – it’s one of my favorite colors and makes me happy when I wear it. I now have a corduroy skirt, loose sweater, swing tee, and this gorgeous jacket from Scotch & Soda. It sold out unfortunately, but here’s a similar option from Uniqlo.
I’m also wearing a pair of burgundy legging jeans from Loft. They’re a softer material which makes them really comfortable and they have a cute back zip detail. The petite length hits right above my ankle which I find flattering.
Lastly, I’ve raved about Dolce Vita before and live in these suede sneakers in the cooler months. They have a higher shaft than your typical sneaker, so they keep my ankles warm, but they’re a perfect light taupe so they transition from winter to spring nicely. Here’s this year’s updated version.
What do you guys think about this orange and burgundy color combo?
The first box of 2018!
Here is the box design for this month. I love the bright colors and “find your happy” message.
Here are the samples in my box, minus the Verb Hydrating Mask. I was so excited to try it out that it was already in my shower at this point. Oops. I love Verb because their products work and are affordable. I also use their hydrating shampoo.
This H2O+ mask is weird to be honest. I love the idea of a soothing mask, especially after spending time in the mountains when it was 5* out. It’s supposed to help with redness and calming your skin and the sample size is quite large. However, it’s a bubbling mask and it made me feel like water was dripping off my face and also somewhat itchy. It smells like men’s aftershave as well.
I’ve received a different shade of the Arrow Lip Balm previously and didn’t love the formula because it wasn’t hydrating enough. However this color (Berry Busy) was described as a deeper berry pink, so I wanted to try it. It’s basically hot pink… The first swatch on the left is one swipe and the right is after it “adapts to your pH.”
I’ve only used this Clark’s Botanicals Age Defying Radiance Cream once, but I love the texture of it. It’s very smoothing and hydrating. It’s a good size for travel too. There’s a teeny bit of retinol in here, so be sure to layer on SPF (I’m recently obsessed with the new Supergoop Unseen).
Lastly, I received a little palette from The Beauty Crop. I have tons of eyeshadow, so I’m saving this cute trio for a giveaway. It’ll be on Instagram soon (you can find me @jeansandgems).
What did you get in your January box? I’d love to know! You can also sign up for Birchbox through my link if you’d like!
My favorite #ootd yet
You know how certain outfits just make you happy? This is my happy outfit. It’s totally casual but somewhat fashion-y. I’m wearing jeans – of course – and added two fun new additions to my wardrobe to make it more interesting.
Maje is one of my very favorite brands and Reed gave me two different Maje tees for Christmas. I especially love the floral embroidery and French phrase on this one. I’m going to be wearing it a ton.
This red faux fur coat from Lulu’s is my new favorite. It’s so cozy and comfortable, but looks chic with practically everything. Here is the cream version too.
By the way, my friend Aleph took these pictures – he’s the best!
Everyday shades for eyes and cheeks
I made this palette a few months ago on the Coastal Scents website. Everyone raves about their incredibly affordable shadows, so I figured I would give them a try. When I saw they had combination palettes, I added a blush and pressed powder as well. I wanted something that would be perfect for travel so I didn’t have to pack as many individual items. MAC has custom face and eye palettes too, but they’re pretty expensive and I don’t love their powder formula. This one ended up being around $16 with shipping which is amazing for a customized palette!
Here are the shades from left to right:
- Cherry Wood – my favorite! It has a slight red/brown/tiny greenish gold shift that looks amazing all over the lid.
- Southern Wood – deep shimmery brown
- New Terrain – medium matte brown. It’s not as pigmented which I personally like for the crease.
- Forest Eve – gorgeous evergreen shade
- Light Plum – pretty purple shade with taupe undertones. I wanted this to be just slightly lighter.
- Light Apricot – perfect light gold/champagne lid shade. It’s my most worn color in this palette.
- Romance Blush – peachy pink with a satin finish
- Antiquity Blush – super light beige setting powder
I absolutely love the Hot Pot eyeshadow formula. All of the shimmers I picked up are smooth, highly pigmented, and blendable. The majority don’t have any fall out except a tiny bit from Light Apricot. The matte shadow is a bit drier and harder in the pan, but I prefer to build my crease shade, so I still really like it.
The Blush formula is also drier, especially the pale Antiquity shade. I can use it to set my under eyes, chin, and forehead, but definitely prefer Glossier Wowder or Besame Brightening Powder. Romance is a bit better texture-wise, but I have several other blushes I prefer.
All in all, I travel with this palette all the time. I still bring another powder, but I love the shadows and would definitely pick up more.
Have you ever tried Coastal Scents or making a custom palette?
