Are They Worth It?
I’m sure you’ve seen Tatcha’s The Pearl Tinted Eye Illuminating Treatment and Drunk Elephant’s D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops all over Instagram and the blogger community. They have beautiful packaging and raves about ingredients. I do love both brands, but I think their recent launches have been extremely hyped up, so I purchased them during the Sephora VIB sale to test out.
I also picked up another Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask during the sale because I’ve been wanting to try the Maple version. I adore this product; I have the Smashed version in my purse at all times and have gone through an entire Clear one. It may not be the most hyped product, but it’s a thousand times worth it!
Clearly, I’m a huge fan of the Agave Lip Masks, but what about the others? I was expecting The Pearl to be a blendable, hydrating eye cream with a little bit of coverage that turns two steps into only one. I do think it provides a nice level of coverage for every day, but it takes me a while to blend it in. I honestly think I put on regular eye cream and a separate concealer faster. Sarah sent me a great video explaining the best technique to apply The Pearl. It was super helpful! I think my issue is that it’s hard to pick up the correct amount of product, which then makes blending take a while or if there’s not enough, it looks uneven. I also don’t think it’s very hydrating unfortunately.
Thankfully, I love D-Bronzi, but again, I’ve learned that a little goes a long way. It’s a bit hard to control the pump – even one whole pump is too much for my face/skin tone – but once you do, this is such an easy and natural-looking bronzer. It adds a healthy amount of color that looks like the golden glow your skin may have after a sunny vacation. I love that it has protective ingredients that are good for your skin too. I usually rub the product between my fingers and then lightly blend around the perimeter of my face and down my neck. It plays well with other products, like concealer and powder too.
So, do I think these highly raved about products are worth the money? With D-Bronzi, I’d say yes! But with The Pearl, it depends. I prefer more minimal, fast base products and don’t mind taking some time with eyeshadow, for example. I also expect liquid and cream products to be very easy to blend and natural-looking on the skin. If you have ample time when you’re getting ready, you may want to try The Pearl.
Have you tried either of these?? What did you think?
Sharing three new staples
In my experience, cleansers aren’t the most exciting skincare product. The last one I was really jazzed about was Bliss’s Cold Pressed. I still love that one for removing makeup by the way. Now I’ve found my favorite morning cleanser thanks to Palm and Lather! It’s the Caviar Lime AHA Cleansing Creme. True to it’s name, it has a lush, creamy texture and it foams up slightly when you add water. I like the soft feeling of this in the morning and it never strips my skin. The addition of an exfoliating ingredient with Vitamin C paired with the rest of my routine has really helped smooth and brighten my skin! I also love the scent of lime, so I was expecting a bright, citrus fragrance, but it’s actually more subtle and sophisticated.
For eyes, I mentioned on Instagram that I had a tendency to neglect this area until I started using the Patchology Flashpatch Restoring Night Eye Gels. They’re so refreshing and now I’m trying to be more diligent about applying eye cream as well. I’m annoyingly prone to milia around my eyes, so it wasn’t a priority in my routine until I found this one from Estée Lauder that doesn’t cause milia! It’s the Revitalizing Supreme+ Global Anti-Aging Cell Power Eye Gelee. I think I’ve also stuck with it because the built-in applicator makes it a breeze to apply. You can squeeze out the precise amount and the metal tip feels cooling and depuffing.
I’ve already raved about Herbivore Botanicals Prism Potion here, but I had to include it since I’m still impressed and have been using it nearly every night. To recap, if you want glowy skin in one easy step, you’ve got to try this!
Those are my three most recent skincare favorites! What have you fallen in love with lately?
Sharing one of my favorite launches
I’m still loving Kaja Beauty, which has the cutest packaging and seriously dreamy textures. The Mochi Glow Bouncy Highlighter in Toy Alien is the only highlight I’ve worn since I received this box! I’ve also been wearing the Cheeky Stamp Blendable Blushes in Coy and Fiesty. Coy is a pretty, subtle pinkish nude while Fiesty is a brighter flush of pink.
I’m loving this line so much and I was really lucky to receive the most generous package from Memebox and Sephora, so I thought it would be fun to share these products!! I’m having a giveaway over on Instagram and it’s a breeze to enter. Pop over before it ends on Wednesday!
A perfect addition for fall
When I was back in Chicago a couple weeks ago, my family headed out to Kuiper’s Family Farm for my favorite fall activity: apple picking!! We picked loads of delicious apples and snacked on cinnamon sugar doughnuts and kettle corn from the huge barn store. Half of the fun of Kuiper’s is slowly making your way through all of the fun rooms full of unique goods, from food to home decor. They even have a wine and cider tasting room.
The weather was perfect for breaking in my new Blank NYC Corduroy Moto Jacket. It has the cool vibe of a leather jacket, but the corduroy fabric adds an interesting twist. I love the charcoal gray color as well. This jacket is really comfortable and warmer than I was expecting too! The cord fabric has a great weight to it that helps fend off the chill, but it’s not too bulky either.
We usual don’t venture over to the pumpkin farm side because it’s more kid focused and the store is much smaller. It was the first beautifully chilly fall day though, so we felt like sticking around for a bit longer. Fall is my very favorite season, so it was fun to get in the spirit.
Aren’t these mini pumpkins just the cutest? I had to include a photo because they’re so adorable and just scream fall to me.
Do you have a fall tradition? What’s your favorite season?
My favorite new skincare find
I’ve officially found my favorite chemical exfoliant! Meet Prism Exfoliating Glow Potion from Herbivore Botanicals. This exfoliates with natural fruit acids to smooth out texture and unclog pores without drying out your skin. It has a watery, serum-like texture and dropper applicator.
I use about three drops per night and apply all over my face and neck. Prism sinks in pretty quickly and then I apply a basic moisturizer, like Clinique Moisture Surge, on top. I want something that will seal in moisture without interrupting the exfoliation process.
It’s been almost two months since I started using Prism and I’m about 1/3 done with the bottle. I usually don’t go through products this quickly, so I’m happy I’ve been so consistent with this part of my routine!
As far as results, I definitely think Prism has improved the texture and clarity of my skin. It’s softer, smoother, and my pores are less clogged. I’ve also noticed less redness in my cheeks in the morning, which is a huge win for me. I deal with a lot of flakiness around my nose and this gets rid of the dead skin cells in that area too.
I’m so happy to have discovered this thanks to Birchbox! It’s definitely on my “to repurchase” list!
