The Sephora sale is back starting tomorrow for Rouge members! I’m actually not Rouge this year – thumbs up for not spending $1k in the past year, but I am sadly missing the 20% discount. As a VIB member, I get 15% off starting next Thursday, August 30th. Beauty Insiders get 10% starting next week as well. To shop online, use discount codes: YESROUGE, YESVIB, and YESINSIDER.

Here are some of my very favorite products that are worth a haul. I’ve repurchased most of these, including the Caudalie Sorbet, Drunk Elephant Bars, Bite Lip Mask, Josie Maran Body Butter, and Comptoir Sud Pacifique Perfume several times. Others are recent discoveries that have achieved HG status already, like the Isle of Paradise Drops and Herbivore Prism.

In the general, the sale is a great time to pick up high-end brands that are rarely discounted, like Pat McGrath and Tom Ford, and well as fragrances and discovery kits, so you can try more for even less. I’ll pop a wishlist on my Instagram Stories next week, but here are some tried and true recommendations:

Herbivore Botanicals Prism Exfoliating Glow Potion – This is my new favorite exfoliating serum. It has a pretty watery consistency that layers well with other skincare products. I only use this at night and happily wake up the next morning to soft, glowing skin. Full review coming soon, but I highly recommend this.

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet – A wonderful hydrating lotion with clean ingredients. This feels lightweight, helps with redness, and is cruelty-free, vegan, and oil-free. It also smells lovely and the packaging is cute.

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Oil – Another glow-making product! This is a hydrating and anti-aging overnight oil that replaces moisturizer and serum for me. It has retinol for plumping the skin, helping with wrinkles, and smoothing pores. I also love the blue tansy and chamomile ingredients for soothing redness.

Drunk Elephant Baby Pekee Bar and Juju Bar Travel Duo – These are so convenient for travel since they’re smaller and don’t count as a liquid. Even though they’re little, these last about six months or longer, so they’re definitely worth the price. The Pekee bar is amazing for gently removing makeup while Juju lightly exfoliates, making it a great morning or post-workout cleanser.

Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter – The unscented version is actually my favorite because it smells like whipped cream! This is my favorite body butter ever. It’s so hydrating without being heavy; the whipped formula is definitely light and luxurious. Since you can get a great body butter at Ulta for less than $10, I only splurge on this during the sale. It lasts a few months thankfully.

Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops – I use the Light version of these drops mixed into body lotion before I go to bed. I wake up a shade or two darker with even coverage and no orange tones. I never thought I’d be into self-tanning (it always seemed so time-consuming and hard to get it to look natural), but this has completely changed my mind. Full review here and routine details here!

Ciate London The Pretty Eyeshadow Palette – Out of all of my eyeshadows, this is my ultimate go-to. I use it every. single. day. You can create a very natural-looking matte eye, everyday shimmer look, or add drama for a night out. While it’s a neutral palette, the pop of orange, purple, and gold make it pretty versatile. It’s relatively affordable too and great for travel.

BareMinerals Invisible Bronze Powder Bronzer  – This is another item I use in my daily routine because it couldn’t be faster to apply and it looks so natural. I lightly sweep this along the perimeter of my face in a 3 shape. The Medium shade is perfect for me, even when I’m much more fair, so you may want to swatch this one in store. The texture/finish reminds me of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders; there’s a tiny bit of shimmer that adds a nice, healthy-looking glow with absolutely no detectable glitter particles.

Bite Agave Lip Mask – One of the most moisturizing lip balm products I’ve ever tried. It has a thicker consistency that melts onto the lips for a comfortable, plush feeling; this helps it last for a good few hours on the lips. The finish has some shine, but it’s not terribly glossy. Smashed is my favorite shade, but I’ve tried the clear and Champagne versions too. I really want to try the newer Maple and Lavender shades!

Briogeo Rosarco Milk Reparative Leave-In Conditioning Spray – Amazing if you have dry or damaged hair! I love a lightweight leave-in that takes care of frizz, protects from UV, and adds a good dose of moisture; this spray does it all while smelling nice. I definitely want to explore more from this brand – they’re pretty clean and cruelty-free too.

Verb Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner – Another great fix for dry hair. This duo helped so much with my curls without being heavy. It also smells great, but it isn’t overbearing. I’m currently using the Ghost Line (reviewed here!) which I’m loving and may be better for my newly short hair. Either way, I’ve loved everything I’ve tried from this brand and it’s already affordable thankfully.

Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Coco – This is my favorite warm and sweet scent. It’s not too close to baked goods, but it definitely has some nostalgic vibes in my opinion. Vanilla is my classic winter scent, but the coconut in this adds a tropical vibe that is fun for warm-weather vacations too. Perfume is rarely on sale, so this is a great time to treat yourself or pick up gifts.

There are so many products and brands from Sephora that I love (Tata Harper, Hourglass, and First Aid Beauty to name a few), so I couldn’t include everything, but these products popped into my head right away and are so good I HAD to include them. What are your Sephora Favorites?? Anything new you’re picking up during the sale?

5 Minute Face for Summer – Minimal Makeup

Easy, fast makeup

fullsizeoutput_1718

Summer is one the busiest times for me since I’m traveling a bunch. It’s also been incredibly hot and I don’t want to wear a lot of makeup that may melt off. So recently, I’ve paired down my everyday makeup to just a few steps. It has made getting ready in the morning or before a flight a bit faster and I’m into the minimal dewy look.

I totally forgot to include my First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Tinted Moisturizer since it’s in my medicine cabinet, but that’s the first step. I love that product for its lightweight feel and sheer coverage that adds a dewy glow to the skin. I have the shade Fair which matches me nicely now that I have a tiny tan. It has SPF 30, which I appreciate, but is unfortunately not Reef Safe, so I won’t be repurchasing it. Any recommendations for tinted moisturizers with Reef Safe SPF would be so helpful! I’ve tried the Raw Elements one, which is great on its own, but makes my face look super oily at the end of the day when layered with other makeup.

Next, I apply Vapour’s Illusionist Concealer in 010 under my eyes and brows, down the bridge of my nose, and a little on my cheeks. This brightens, highlights, and covers redness beautifully (full review here!). That quickly blends in with my Real Techniques Mini Expert Face Brush. I have the full size of this too and absolutely love it! This smaller version works just as beautifully and is so travel friendly.

One of my favorite steps is bronzer and my current go-to is the BareMinerals Invisible Bronze in Medium. This works nicely to warm up my complexion and looks very natural on the skin. It’s a bit strange that medium is my shade match in this product because I’m relatively fair, so be careful if you’re looking at the different shades. Sometimes I’ll blend this into the crease of my eyelid as eyeshadow too.

I’ve actually been using my Luxie Tapered Highlight Brush from June’s Boxycharm with that bronzer. It seems odd because bronzer brushes are generally quite large, but I don’t have much room in my travel makeup bag and was looking for another alternative. This one worked out because it’s a fluffy brush. If it were dense, it would be hard to lightly sweep product onto the skin.

Since there is a scar in my left brow and my brows can be a bit unruly, even a super minimal look includes some type of brow product for me. I love this Beautaniq Beauty Fill + Tame Brow Gel for how quickly and easily it applies and evens out my brows. It doesn’t leave them crunchy either. The Brunette color matches my dark brown, almost black brow hair really well, which can sometimes be hard with gels.

Lastly, I’ve been trying out the Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara in Black. It’s a very wet formula, so I have to be careful while applying or little specks get all over my lids (which is hard to hid when you’re not wearing any eyeshadow!). However the longer application time is worth it because it gives me serious length and pretty volume too.

So that’s this super simple look. I always have lip balm on and a few gloss options with me too. I love Tom Ford La Piscine and Clinique Pop Splash in Pinot Pop (swatched here).

What’s your favorite look for summer? Are you feeling a minimal vibe or all out glam?

My First Foundation! BareMinerals Made2Fit Custom Shade

That foundation has my name on it – literally

If you saw my recent post about testing foundation samples, you know that I couldn’t find a foundation that I loved and would want to purchase and wear regularly. It was a bit disappointing, but it wasn’t a huge deal for me. Then Influenster sent over the opportunity to create my own personalized BareMinerals foundation ($49).

I figured something that was literally made for me might be the best full-size addition to my collection. I also really love the BareMinerals bareSkin Serum Concealer which has great coverage but looks undetectable and blends in like a dream. I didn’t love the BarePro because it was too matte and a tiny bit heavy, but this claimed to be lighter coverage with a natural finish.

The Made2Fit formula is definitely dewy – I appreciate the hydration on my dry skin, but I did set my t-zone with powder because it was a bit too glowy for me in those areas. The coverage is light which I prefer, but I’ve read reviews that it’s buildable too. The shade was also the perfect match for me without emphasizing my yellow undertones. I was really impressed that it was so spot on. Even better, if it doesn’t match, you can exchange it for another shade for free.

So, am I a foundation convert? Not exactly. While I do like this more than any of the other foundations I’ve tried, I still think just a bit of concealer looks the same and it’s faster for me to apply. I’m really glad to add this to my collection for when I may need it though. I also love that it has my name on it – super cute – and a sanitary pump. If you have a hard time finding the perfect shade, I would definitely recommend this!

You can sign up for Influenster to receive free makeup too! Are you already a member? What have you received lately? If not, would you pay $50 for a custom foundation?

Foundation First Impressions

Testing three formulas

I have a confession: I’m a beauty blogger, but I don’t own a single foundation. It may sound crazy, but I have never tried a foundation that I loved. Maybe it’s just that I haven’t discovered the right one or it could be that I don’t like wearing heavy makeup. I generally prefer a bit of concealer where I need it.

I love concealer and I’m sure I’ve tried about 20 different ones; there are currently three in my makeup bag. So, I’ve decided to test out it’s companion and dip my toes into the vast world of foundation. I picked up a few samples from Nordstrom and Sephora when I was in Chicago and have been testing them out for a couple weeks.

The first is the ultra-luxe Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Fluid Foundation which retails for $63 (1 oz). I really don’t know if this is a good foundation or not because I only wore it for three minutes. This stuff reeks. Honestly, the perfumy scent was so strong that I had to wash my face. This has SPF 20 and the shade 02N was a great color match for my fair/light complexion with yellow undertones, but I was worried it was going to irritate my skin.

Next I tried the BareMinerals BarePro Liquid Foundation in Cashmere 06 ($34/oz). The shade matched me very well, but leaned a bit yellow when the label says it has a neutral undertone. This claims to be full coverage with a matte finish. It’s definitely the most coverage I’ve ever worn, but my freckles were still visible. I’m never trying to cover them, so I didn’t mind at all. I’m just not sure if that would make it truly full coverage. It definitely has a matte finish, so I used a hydrating setting spray because my skin is currently dry. It would probably be best for me in the summer, but then I don’t like wearing much makeup. It does have SPF 20 and lasted through the entire day. I also found this pretty comfortable throughout the wear, but it wasn’t weightless.

This last one isn’t exactly foundation, but it’s still a base which I hadn’t tried. I’ve heard great things about the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, so I picked up the shade Nude. This is $45, but the tube is 1.7 ounces like a standard moisturizer versus 1 ounce for foundation. It was slightly dark for me unfortunately, but it’s sheer enough that I still wore it for the whole day. I thought the dewy finish was pretty and that the effect was very natural. I appreciate the skincare ingredients and SPF 20, but I don’t think I would purchase the full size because it didn’t look much different than my every day makeup without a base product.

I hope this was helpful even though I’m a foundation novice! I just received the new BareMinerals custom foundation which may be “the one.” What’s your favorite base?
