Herbivore Botanicals Prism Exfoliating Glow Potion Review!

My favorite new skincare find

I’ve officially found my favorite chemical exfoliant! Meet Prism Exfoliating Glow Potion from Herbivore Botanicals. This exfoliates with natural fruit acids to smooth out texture and unclog pores without drying out your skin. It has a watery, serum-like texture and dropper applicator.

I use about three drops per night and apply all over my face and neck. Prism sinks in pretty quickly and then I apply a basic moisturizer, like Clinique Moisture Surge, on top. I want something that will seal in moisture without interrupting the exfoliation process.

It’s been almost two months since I started using Prism and I’m about 1/3 done with the bottle. I usually don’t go through products this quickly, so I’m happy I’ve been so consistent with this part of my routine!

As far as results, I definitely think Prism has improved the texture and clarity of my skin. It’s softer, smoother, and my pores are less clogged. I’ve also noticed less redness in my cheeks in the morning, which is a huge win for me. I deal with a lot of flakiness around my nose and this gets rid of the dead skin cells in that area too.

I’m so happy to have discovered this thanks to Birchbox! It’s definitely on my “to repurchase” list!

Birchbox Sale! Last Summer Friyays 25% off Discount

An even better deal than the Sephora Sale!

looks-1535724155720

Birchbox is having their last Summer Friyay sale with 25% off everything on this page! That’s a pretty great deal for cosmetics – even better than the 20% Sephora Rouge sale. And anyone can use the code SUMMER25 to get the discount! I’ve rounded up my favorites and best recommendations below.

MAKEUP:

  • Benefit Bad Gal Bang! Bigger, Badder, Volumizing Mascara – $18 after discount. This is one of my favorite mascaras because it adds volume and separation without getting spidery or smudging.
  • Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil – $19.50 after discount. Super plush glossy oils in a bunch of pretty tints. The Raspberry is my favorite because it smells so yummy!
  • Coola Tinted Mineral Liplux SPF 30 in Tan Lines – $13.50 after discount. I love a lip balm with SPF and these are reef safe too. Tan Lines is a pretty coral-y nude.
  • Love of Color Liquid Shimmer Shadow in Stardust – $7.50 after discount. Such a steal for this long-wearing cream shadow that catches light beautifully.
  • Milk Makeup Holographic Stick in Stardust – $21 after discount. I just purchased this from the Sephora sale… This is a way better deal! Gorgeous on lips, eyes, and cheeks in duo-chrome pink with purple iridescence.

SKINCARE:

  • NuFace Prep-n-Glow Cloths – $15 after discount. These are perfect for travel since they remove makeup and lightly exfoliate in one step. No need to rinse!
  • Sunday Riley Good Genes All-in-One Lactic Acid Treatment – $78.75 after discount. One of two chemical exfoliants that I adore. It smooths and plumps almost immediately and removes dead skin cells and brightens overnight.
  • Too Cool for School Egg Mellow Cream 5-in-1 Firming Moisturizer – $27 after discount. The ultimate multi-tasker, this rich cream acts as an anti-aging serum, moisturizer, eye cream, neck cream, and overnight mask. I’m usually skeptical of x-in-one products, but this one is the best I’ve tried.

HAIR:

  • Davines This is a Sea Salt Spray – $21 after discount. A non-drying sea salt spray that perks up my waves and smells delicious. I spray it in damp hair and air dry.
  • Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo – $15.75 after discount. My favorite dry shampoo ever! Removes all oil without any residue and adds a little volume too.
  • Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray – $31.50 after discount. Another beachy, texture spray, but this one leaves more of a shiny finish when dusted onto dry hair. Still so expensive, but way better than $42.
  • R + Co. High Dive Moisture and Shine Creme – $21.75 after discount. The perfect lightweight cream to add a dose of hydration to my ends or help tame flyaways.

BODY:

  • Sumbody Salt Scrub – $14.21 after discount. This Milky Rich scent is so decadent and feels luxurious. The scrub isn’t too abrasive, but if definitely gets the job done.
  • Juara Candlenut Body Creme – $26.25 after discount. This rich body butter is perfect for after shaving or all-over moisturizing. It also smells delicious – clearly a theme with the scents today.

OTHER:

  • Swell 17 oz. Bottle – $26.25 after discount. These are the best portable bottles I’ve ever tried. They keep drinks cold for 24 hours (really!) and look great while doing it. A desk and gym necessity for me.

Here’s my little wishlist too:

  • W3ll People Natural Contour and Highlight Duo – $18.74 after discount. I already love the highlighter in this duo for a natural glow. I’d like to try a cream contour/bronzer (this looks a bit warmer) and this would be great for travel.
  • Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks – $18.75 after discount. I’ve been eyeing this brand since they launched and am trying to step up my eye care game. Plus these just look fun.
  • Georgette Klinger Coconut Facial Mist – $6.75 after discount. Such an affordable facial mist from a clean brand that’s on my wishlist. The coconut and green tea combo sounds lovely, plus there’s aloe and grape extract for even more hydration.

Have you tried any of these products already? What are you snagging from the sale?

Birchbox August Unboxing and Mini Reviews

Monthly unboxing and review

It has been the busiest summer! I can’t believe we’re 2/3 through August already… Does everyone say that? Summer usually flies by for me, but it’s pretty relaxing.  Between traveling more than usual, having friends and family visit, building a bunch of new furniture for the apartment, getting ready to transition into an exciting new role, and working on a new fitness schedule, I’m feeling pretty stretched. All good things thankfully, but I have to say I’m looking forward to things settling down a touch this fall.

Anyway, here’s my August Birchbox! I chose the curated box this month because I knew I would use every single product. I was really excited to see Amika in this month’s edit as I love their hair-care products; I’ve also never tried a dry shampoo foam and was pretty intrigued. The Phantom Hydrating Dry Shampoo Foam is fun to use, effective at removing oil, and actually adds volume to my strands as well. I dispense about a golf-ball size puff, flip my hair down, and massage it into my roots. It feels almost wet, but it doesn’t leave any residue or dampness behind and (as with all Amika products) smells lovely.

The other hair-care item I received is Oribe’s Featherbalm Weightless Styler. I was definitely looking forward to trying this because Oribe products are so luxurious; their Apres Beach Spray is one of my favorites. This balm provides light hold, nourishes, and protects against UV rays and heat. I think it did a surprisingly great job moisturizing as my hair was nowhere near as frizzy as usual, but I could use a bit more hold for my curls.

For skincare, I have yet to try this Borghese Advanced Fango Active Mud Mask because my skin is currently a bit dry and mud masks tend to dehydrate my skin. It’s a decently sized sample though – I think I will be able to get about three uses from this jar – which makes it perfect for travel. I’m heading to Mexico in a couple months and the humidity there might contribute some oiliness/clogged pores that this mask would be perfect for.

I received two makeup products this month, a cute Kabuki Brush from Birchbox and a Cheek Blush from Doucce. The brush is really soft and would be great for travel since it’s so small. It smelled a tiny bit like vinegar at first, but I washed it before using and that disappeared thankfully. The size and shape of this brush makes it great for setting powder or even bronzer. This RSVP blush is such a pretty, subtle shade of pink. The powder itself is very soft and blendable too. However, I don’t love the packaging as it’s meant to go in a Doucce case or z-palette (neither of which I own).

Box Breakdown

  • Dry Shampoo Foam: .75 oz = $3.54
  • Hair Balm: .5 oz = $6.18
  • Mud Mask: .5 oz = $8.8 (this same mini sells for $12 on the Borghese website, but this is the value of actually product based on the full size)
  • Kabuki Brush: full size = $5
  • Pink Blush: .12 oz = $12 (That’s with the packaging, so I’m docking $2)

For $10, I received $33.50 worth of product. I love the Amika Dry Shampoo Foam and was happy to try another Oribe product. I also received a full size brush and got to try two new-to-me brands.

5 Minute Face for Summer – Minimal Makeup

Easy, fast makeup

fullsizeoutput_1718

Summer is one the busiest times for me since I’m traveling a bunch. It’s also been incredibly hot and I don’t want to wear a lot of makeup that may melt off. So recently, I’ve paired down my everyday makeup to just a few steps. It has made getting ready in the morning or before a flight a bit faster and I’m into the minimal dewy look.

I totally forgot to include my First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Tinted Moisturizer since it’s in my medicine cabinet, but that’s the first step. I love that product for its lightweight feel and sheer coverage that adds a dewy glow to the skin. I have the shade Fair which matches me nicely now that I have a tiny tan. It has SPF 30, which I appreciate, but is unfortunately not Reef Safe, so I won’t be repurchasing it. Any recommendations for tinted moisturizers with Reef Safe SPF would be so helpful! I’ve tried the Raw Elements one, which is great on its own, but makes my face look super oily at the end of the day when layered with other makeup.

Next, I apply Vapour’s Illusionist Concealer in 010 under my eyes and brows, down the bridge of my nose, and a little on my cheeks. This brightens, highlights, and covers redness beautifully (full review here!). That quickly blends in with my Real Techniques Mini Expert Face Brush. I have the full size of this too and absolutely love it! This smaller version works just as beautifully and is so travel friendly.

One of my favorite steps is bronzer and my current go-to is the BareMinerals Invisible Bronze in Medium. This works nicely to warm up my complexion and looks very natural on the skin. It’s a bit strange that medium is my shade match in this product because I’m relatively fair, so be careful if you’re looking at the different shades. Sometimes I’ll blend this into the crease of my eyelid as eyeshadow too.

I’ve actually been using my Luxie Tapered Highlight Brush from June’s Boxycharm with that bronzer. It seems odd because bronzer brushes are generally quite large, but I don’t have much room in my travel makeup bag and was looking for another alternative. This one worked out because it’s a fluffy brush. If it were dense, it would be hard to lightly sweep product onto the skin.

Since there is a scar in my left brow and my brows can be a bit unruly, even a super minimal look includes some type of brow product for me. I love this Beautaniq Beauty Fill + Tame Brow Gel for how quickly and easily it applies and evens out my brows. It doesn’t leave them crunchy either. The Brunette color matches my dark brown, almost black brow hair really well, which can sometimes be hard with gels.

Lastly, I’ve been trying out the Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara in Black. It’s a very wet formula, so I have to be careful while applying or little specks get all over my lids (which is hard to hid when you’re not wearing any eyeshadow!). However the longer application time is worth it because it gives me serious length and pretty volume too.

So that’s this super simple look. I always have lip balm on and a few gloss options with me too. I love Tom Ford La Piscine and Clinique Pop Splash in Pinot Pop (swatched here).

What’s your favorite look for summer? Are you feeling a minimal vibe or all out glam?

I chose the curated box this month because I really wanted to try the R+Co Waterfall Moisture + Shine Lotion as well as the Red Earth Beauty Deep Dive Water Cream. I’ve tried both brands before; the Twister Curl Primer and High Dive Moisture and Shine Cream from R+Co are some of my favorites and I love the Red Earth Beauty Hydrating Sheet Masks. I also didn’t really like the sample choice options (or I had tried it already).

The Red Earth Beauty face cream is really lightweight – like the Tatcha Water Cream. It feels refreshing and hydrating without being heavy or sticky. I like that it’s simple and REB uses more natural ingredients. This is perfect for summer in hot climates for me, but it wouldn’t be enough when my skin gets drier later in fall.

For the R+Co Waterfall Lotion, the scent is a little strong for me. I know their line includes several fragrances to cater to different preferences, but this one isn’t my favorite. I also don’t think it’s hydrating enough for my dry hair – I definitely prefer the High Dive cream version (which also smells much better in my opinion).

I love the Brow Gel from Beautaniq Beauty that I also received in a Birchbox, so I was excited to try their Glow Serum. I was expecting a subtle, cream product to give a pretty glow to the skin. Instead, this is a metallic liquid highlight that appears super sparkly on the face. It’s way more blinding than a glow – it honestly looks like a gold cream shadow on my skin. Definite pass from me.

This BeautyBlender sample is kind of weird and gimmicky in my opinion. Since it’s flat, you don’t really get the true feeling of a BeautyBlender. I already love these and have been using them for years though. I have never found another sponge that feels as lightweight, doesn’t absorb too much product, and makes concealer look so natural. I’ve tried a bunch since my Target Dupe post! I know they’re kind of expensive, but they last a few months with regular washing.

I had already received the Davines Su Hair and Body Wash a couple years ago, but it’s good to have on hand. This is gentle and smells nice, plus it’s a pretty large sample. I generally don’t like two in one products like this, but I think Davines has done a good job here. I also love their This is Not a Sea Salt Spray and Oi All in One Milk.

Box Breakdown:

  • Hair Lotion 0.5 oz = $3
  • Face Cream 0.25 oz = $3.50
  • Highlighter ~ $7
  • Body Wash/Shampoo 2.5 oz = $7
  • BeautyBlender ~ 1/4 original size = $5?

For $10, I received around $26 worth of products. I didn’t fall in love with these samples and didn’t discover any new brands, but I chose this box. I’m glad I got to try more items from brands I already enjoy and I’ll definitely be saving the Davines product for my next trip.
