5 Minute Face for Summer – Minimal Makeup

Easy, fast makeup

Summer is one the busiest times for me since I’m traveling a bunch. It’s also been incredibly hot and I don’t want to wear a lot of makeup that may melt off. So recently, I’ve paired down my everyday makeup to just a few steps. It has made getting ready in the morning or before a flight a bit faster and I’m into the minimal dewy look.

I totally forgot to include my First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Tinted Moisturizer since it’s in my medicine cabinet, but that’s the first step. I love that product for its lightweight feel and sheer coverage that adds a dewy glow to the skin. I have the shade Fair which matches me nicely now that I have a tiny tan. It has SPF 30, which I appreciate, but is unfortunately not Reef Safe, so I won’t be repurchasing it. Any recommendations for tinted moisturizers with Reef Safe SPF would be so helpful! I’ve tried the Raw Elements one, which is great on its own, but makes my face look super oily at the end of the day when layered with other makeup.

Next, I apply Vapour’s Illusionist Concealer in 010 under my eyes and brows, down the bridge of my nose, and a little on my cheeks. This brightens, highlights, and covers redness beautifully (full review here!). That quickly blends in with my Real Techniques Mini Expert Face Brush. I have the full size of this too and absolutely love it! This smaller version works just as beautifully and is so travel friendly.

One of my favorite steps is bronzer and my current go-to is the BareMinerals Invisible Bronze in Medium. This works nicely to warm up my complexion and looks very natural on the skin. It’s a bit strange that medium is my shade match in this product because I’m relatively fair, so be careful if you’re looking at the different shades. Sometimes I’ll blend this into the crease of my eyelid as eyeshadow too.

I’ve actually been using my Luxie Tapered Highlight Brush from June’s Boxycharm with that bronzer. It seems odd because bronzer brushes are generally quite large, but I don’t have much room in my travel makeup bag and was looking for another alternative. This one worked out because it’s a fluffy brush. If it were dense, it would be hard to lightly sweep product onto the skin.

Since there is a scar in my left brow and my brows can be a bit unruly, even a super minimal look includes some type of brow product for me. I love this Beautaniq Beauty Fill + Tame Brow Gel for how quickly and easily it applies and evens out my brows. It doesn’t leave them crunchy either. The Brunette color matches my dark brown, almost black brow hair really well, which can sometimes be hard with gels.

Lastly, I’ve been trying out the Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara in Black. It’s a very wet formula, so I have to be careful while applying or little specks get all over my lids (which is hard to hid when you’re not wearing any eyeshadow!). However the longer application time is worth it because it gives me serious length and pretty volume too.

So that’s this super simple look. I always have lip balm on and a few gloss options with me too. I love Tom Ford La Piscine and Clinique Pop Splash in Pinot Pop (swatched here).

What’s your favorite look for summer? Are you feeling a minimal vibe or all out glam?

Boxycharm June Unboxing and Review

My first Boxycharm!

I’m clearly on a subscription box binge… but when I saw the Alamar palette and Luxie Brushes in the sneak peek for this month, I just had to subscribe! I’ve been inspired by summer, especially beachy locations, and have been wanting to play with more color lately. My Wet N Wild Palette is a fun way to dip my toes into warmer colors and a light blue, but this Alamar Reina Del Caribe Palette seemed to have much more of an impact. I had also never tried Luxie brushes and these pink ones are too cute!

I think the tropical packaging on the Alamar palette is cute and perfect for summer. I also love the mix of colors and how it’s organized so the cool-toned shimmers are at the top and the warmer satins and mattes are at the bottom. While this is definitely a bolder palette for me, I can still get everyday looks out of it as well! The mattes are really pigmented but blend nicely. The shimmers apply best with your fingertip in my experience – otherwise there’s some fallout. If I could make one change to the palette, I would definitely add a mirror.

The Luxie brushes came in a sturdy zipped bag. When I first took them out, they smelled chemically (and it was pretty strong). I let them air out for a day and then made sure to wash them before using. Thankfully, that scent totally disappeared! Boxycharm included the #522 Tapered Highlight, #660 Precision Foundation, and #516 Duo Fiber Powder in this set.

The Precision Foundation brush is a little weird in my opinion because normally foundation brushes in this size and bristle length are flat and denser. If this were a buffing brush, I would expect the bristles to be a bit shorter. I’m currently using it for lightly bronzing the perimeters of my face since I don’t like a giant bronzer brush.

The Tapered Highlight brush is perfect for highlighters like the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders as it sweeps more over the cheekbones and temples (versus a fan brush which can be more precise). I also think it’s great for setting the under-eye because of the tapered shape.

Lastly, I do use #516 for powder. It quickly sweeps on translucent powder and doesn’t pick up too much product. Overall, I think these are quality brushes and I absolutely love the pink handles.

Since I really purchased this box for the palette and brushes, everything else was like a bonus! I received another Bum Bum Cream for Sol de Janiero, so this one will be going in a giveaway! I rarely ever use false lashes, but I’m glad to have a pair just in case. These Battington Monroe Silk Lashes ones seem nice because they’re not crazy dramatic. You can also use them 25 times! I hope they are easy to trim and stay on well – I’ll definitely write a whole review when I do wear these.

I’m pretty sure I’m allergic to eyeliner (at least in the waterline and if I’m going to wear it on my top lid, I like green or purple), but this Charcoal one from Jonteblu looks really pretty. I’m not sure yet if I should try it. Lastly, I’m not a liquid lipstick girl, so the Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Verona will be another giveaway item.

Box Breakdown (all full size)

  • Eyeshadow Palette $28
  • Brushes $42
  • False Lashes $28
  • Lipstick $21
  • Eyeliner $5
  • Body Cream (travel size) $10

For $21, I received $134 of products! This is definitely the subscription box if you’re looking for a lot of value and all full size items! I think it’s great because the two items I wanted the most already cost three times more than the whole box! Boxycharm also seems to include trendy and niche brands, which makes a fun mix.
