New Becca Cosmetics Volcano Goddess Eyeshadow Palette Swatches and First Impressions

Swatches of a gorgeous new launch

Becca just dropped a new line of volcano inspired cosmetics and I had to snag the Volcano Goddess Eyeshadow Palette because it’s so beautiful! I’ve actually never purchased a palette sight unseen, but I went for it because I think this one may sell out! I also received 20% off the palette since I’d never purchased anything from the Becca website before. I’m very happy with the free shipping too; I ordered on Wednesday morning and the package showed up this morning (Friday)!

These shades are absolutely stunning and perfect for creating neutral looks with enough fun pops of color that add a bit more interest. I think it will be great for travel since you have warm and cool toned options as well as those bolder shades. The packaging itself is quite sturdy as well and there’s a nice, large mirror inside too.

Here are swatches taken indoor in indirect sunlight. I made a tiny circle in each pan and swiped once on my arm (with the exception of diamond dust, which took two passes to show the true color on my pale skin). You can really see the difference between the  finishes with three matte shades, four shimmers, and five pressed pigment/glittery shades. From the left we have: Cloud, Volcanic Sand, Granite, Gilded, Diamond Dust, Haze, Red Rock, Lava, Agate Ash, Crater, Hematite, and Midnight Sapphire.

Here are swatches with the flash on. It was pretty cloudy this morning and it’s supposed to rain all weekend, but I wanted to get this post up! So I hope it’s helpful if you were interested in this palette but couldn’t find many swatches.

For my first impression, I wore Granite, Haze, and Agate Ash on my eyes today without any primer and I’m pretty impressed with the finish and lasting power so far! The shimmer catches the light beautifully and they haven’t creased yet!

I’ll definitely have a full review up after I’ve worn all of the shades on my eyes. I can note that Diamond Dust does have a bit of fallout as the texture is a bit chunkier than the rest; it’s workable though and doesn’t ruin the palette for me!

Have you heard anything about this collection yet? What’s your current favorite eyeshadow palette?

Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Review

Testing a fun product

I’m usually the lightest shade of concealer out there and I’ve always embraced being this pale. With my trips to Scottsdale and FL earlier this summer though, I had a tiny bit of a tan going on. When Isle of Paradise reached out, I figured it would be a great way to extend my glow.

This is actually the first self-tanning line I’ve ever tried. Their inclusivity and clean ingredients along with cute packaging definitely intrigued me. I love that the line comes in three different shades from light to deep and there are drops, sprays, and mousse formulas to choose from. Isle of Paradise is also organic, vegan, and cruelty-free!

The Self Tanning Drops are my very favorite. I was actually surprised by how easy they were to use! You simply mix a few drops into body lotion and apply all over. They aren’t streaky at all and a tan will develop about 4-6 hours later. If you want to see how I prep my skin beforehand, check out this post!

I’ve applied the mixture at night and gotten right into bed and there were no streaks on my sheets. I would say two drops made me look about one to two shades darker. It’s subtle and natural-looking, but definitely working! I use them once a week to maintain this tone, but if you add more drops, the color becomes darker.

I’ve also tried the Drops with my nighttime facial moisturizer; I used one drop mixed in twice in the same week. It looks like a healthy tan that helped even out my skin tone too. I actually had to switch to my darkest concealer because my usual light shade was starting to look a little too pale!

The other product I was kindly sent is their Self-Tanning Water, which is a spray-on formula. I haven’t tried this one yet because you need a tanning mitt to spread the water and even out the color. I’ll definitely pick one up soon so I can try this, but I have high hopes since I love the Drops so much.

Overall I’m seriously impressed with Isle of Paradise. I feel like the Drops especially are fool-proof, fast, and easy. As a true beginner, they were extremely user-friendly, but I think even long-time tanners would enjoy the convenience of the Drops as well as the selection of shades.

Have you ever tried self-tanning? What’s your favorite brand?

Clio Palmperfect Cordless Shaver (and my Self Tanning Routine)

A convenient beauty tool

Have you ever been wearing a skirt and crossed your legs in a meeting and then realized you did a terrible job shaving your knees? Just me? On more than one occasion, I’ve wished I had a razor with me for a quick fix. So I was pretty excited when Clio reached out about their Palmperfect Cordless Shaver.

I like the smaller size compared to most electric razors and how quickly this takes care of any unwanted hair. I think it’s especially great for the underarms as the rounded top is perfect for this more delicate area. I love that you don’t need water or shaving cream either, so you can quickly take care of shaving anywhere.

This is going to be perfect for beach trips or warm-weather travel! Or even when I’m wearing a sleeveless blouse to the office. At under $10, this such an affordable tool to have on hand – I definitely recommend it.

I also tried self tanning for the first time (review coming next week!) and the Palmperfect has been working like a charm to prep my skin. I can easily shave my legs and underarms without nicks or having to hop in the shower.

If I am doing my nighttime, post-workout shower routine, I’ll also use a body scrub to help exfoliate and make sure my skin is smooth first. My favorites are the Josie Maran Argan Sugar Scrub and the Sol de Janeiro Bod Buff! Then I’ll mix the Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops into one of my favorite body lotions and apply all over. I’m sadly almost finished with the Soap and Glory Smoothie Star Body Milk, which smells amazing and hydrates without being heavy.

Have you ever tried an electric razor before? What’s your favorite self tanner? I’m hooked on both now!

May Birchbox

Monthly unboxing and reviews

I received my Birchbox right before my Chicago trip, which was perfect timing to test out new samples. My box had a bunch of skincare, which I absolutely love trying, and a shampoo and conditioner.

Here are some texture swatches of the three skincare items: the Hanalei Lip Treatment in Clear, the Comfort Zone Remedy Cream to Oil Ultra Gentle Cleanser, and the Nyakio Kenyan Face Polish.

I’ve been using the lip balm often and it reminds me a little bit of Carmex. The scent is pretty similar and the texture is just a bit more slippery.

I’m unfortunately not a huge fan of the Cream to Oil Cleanser. I generally don’t like makeup removers that you apply to dry skin and then add water. I felt like this one left a residue and didn’t remove all of my makeup.

The face polish is great thankfully! It exfoliates without being harsh and it smells great.

I haven’t tried the shampoo and conditioner yet because I’m saving them for my trip to Florida! They’re supposed to help with frizz, which sounds perfect for the humid weather on the beach.

Box Breakdown

Nyakio Face Polish .5 oz = $4

Hanalei Lip Treatment est. .25 oz = $10

Comfort Zone Cleanser .5 oz = $3.50

Matrix Shampoo 1.7 oz = $2

Matrix Conditioner 1.7 oz = $2

For $10, I received $21.50 of product this month. That’s lower than usual, so I hope I like the shampoo and conditioner. If so, this box will turn out to be a good one!

What did you get in your box this month? If you haven’t subscribed yet, I would love to refer you!

Target Beauty Haul

Swatches and first impressions

I usually try to stop at Target when I’m in Chicago because they have so many brands and everything is much more affordable than NYC. Most recently, I wanted to find the new Wet n Wild Not a Basic Peach palette and I really needed a new lip scrub. I also picked up a couple extra items since they currently have a promotion for a $5 gift card when you spend $20.

One of those items was the Up and Up version of the BeautyBlender, which was $3.99. I love the original BeautyBlender and have never tried any of the dupes until now. I’ll have a whole post on this coming soon!

I also happened upon these adorable mini Real Techniques brushes. They’re my favorite drugstore brush brand, so I had to pick up a travel size version of my Expert Face Brush. It blends like a dream and was only $5.99.

I haven’t tried anything from ELF in a while and loved the colors in this duo. It’s the Best Friends eyeshadow palette in Pink Pal. I love this for an everyday eye and I think it would make a great contour and highlight palette for travel too. This swatches beautifully and wears well on the eyes. It lasts about 8 hours without primer and 12 hours with my Sephora Collection Tinted and Cooling Eye Primer. I’ve been using it a ton this week and would highly recommend it, especially for $3!

Wet n Wild recently redid their eyeshadow formula and everyone was raving about these their palettes a couple months ago. The one I picked up is a new color scheme and I love the warm shades with a pop of blue. It’s easy to get different colorful looks from this palette, but you can use it to create a couple basic options as well. It’s very compact and would be perfect to travel with. Full review coming soon!

Lastly, I saw this cute lip scrub from Burt’s bees and decided to give it a try. I had been eyeing the Lush Honey one, and this Conditioning Lip Scrub with Exfoliating Honey Crystals seemed like a similar option for only $8. It has a very soft base that my finger sunk into, to give you a better idea of the texture. It still exfoliates well though and I enjoy the scent. My lips are always dry and I’m happy to have a lip scrub back in my routine. I think I’ll try the Lush scrub or Frank Body one when this runs out.

That’s everything! I’m really happy with this haul and will have to get to Target more often. What have you picked up lately?
