A flattering find
I’ve been having a hard time with skirts lately as I’ve realized that too much volume can overwhelm my frame and add bulk. However, I’m not a fan of bodycon or pencil skirts on me personally; the former is just too tight and the latter tends to be too long. If it sounds like a Goldilocks situation, that was definitely how I felt before I found this denim dream from Free People.
It’s the Zip It Up Mini Skirt in Haven Black and I love everything about it from the color to the frayed hem! The cut slightly flares out from the waist, which I find very flattering. It’s fitted without being too tight and I love all of the pockets. The zipper is functional too, and I think it helps elongate my body with a vertical line. I really like the high waist fit, although it is definitely the shortest skirt in my wardrobe…
I originally ordered a size 26 (which is my typical denim size) but since this sits about three inches higher, I had to exchange it for a 24. Just something to keep in mind if you’re ordering online. It also comes in blue, which I’m probably going to pick up as well.
This skirt pairs perfectly with plain tanks, cute crop tops (shocking for me!), and graphic tees. I’m wearing my favorite one from Maje in these photos, but it’s from last year. These have some similar floral details: a cute, affordable option and one with flutter sleeves. I would also love to get something like this amazing Kenzo tee.
What’s great is that this skirt feels really summery when paired with sandals and light tops, but I can see it transitioning into fall seamlessly too. Add a long cardigan and tights or a leather jacket with booties. It’s definitely my new favorite skirt and I think I’ll get a ton of wear out of it!
Have you found any wardrobe heros lately? What is your favorite summer clothing item?
Rounding up a few recent outfits
It was a really busy week for me, so here are some quick snapshots! My cousin visited for Memorial Day weekend and we had the best time running all over the city. The weather varied from perfect at 85 degrees and sunny to chilly and 65*, so my outfits incorporated both Spring and Summer styles. I’m still obsessed with my birthday jacket, picked up this adorable midi skirt, and am thoroughly enjoying the square neckline trend.
Loft lace trim cami, layered necklace
Scotch & Soda printed bomber, Loft split hem jeans, Nordstrom gold slides,
Kate Spade crossbody
Loft heather tank, fabric belt, J Crew shorts (sold out), black sandals
J Crew tank top, Loft midi skirt, Gunmetal bow slides
Loft square neck tank, dark wash jeans
What Spring and Summer trends have you been loving lately?
Relaxing in my old age 😉
I didn’t want any gifts for my birthday this year – instead I was so happy to have a laidback day full of my favorite foods and the new Avengers movie! We had Doughnut Project and Bantam Bagels for breakfast and then went to Tao for dinner. It was a dream.
While we were out and about, I spotted this jacket at Scotch & Soda and fell in love. S&S is one of my favorite stores – I love how they mix fabrics and textures and that their clothes usually have unique, thoughtful details.
For example, this bomber is actually reversible and done so in a really useful (versus cheesy) way. You can see a sliver of the triangle pattern here – it looks like a lining, but it’s actually the entire inside. I like that the patterns are so different but have a similar warm color scheme that I’m really into lately. Both sides also have pockets which is nice. So you basically get two jackets for the price.
By the way, how adorable is this Frenchie t-shirt?? I just had to wear it on my birthday because it makes me happy! My mom also sent me the matching socks because she’s the sweetest person ever.
I finished off the outfit with my favorite star jeans that I’m sure you guys are sick of hearing about… and new gold loafers that are so comfortable. Like I said, laidback but exactly what I wanted!
I hope you’re having a great week! It’s 80 degrees here which just feels amazing. What’s your weather like?
Bridging winter and spring
Reed and I went to a wedding in Chicago a couple weeks ago and I was torn about what to wear considering it was April, but the weather was in the 30s! Suffice to say I froze while taking these pictures (notice the RBF and neck tension… 🤦🏻♀️😬), but I just had to show off this stunning floral dress.
I’m obsessed with the heavier fabric combined with a short sleeve silhouette and brighter print. The black lace grounded the dress and it felt appropriate for the weather paired with a warm wrap. However florals are very springy and celebratory as well.
This was a great Anthropologie sale find that fit perfectly since it’s from Eva Franco’s petite line. I love the flirty ruffles and red pattern detail on black lace. It’s an intricate dress that doesn’t overwhelm my petite frame, which is rare. It’s quite short for me, so I was glad it has more of a relaxed swing silhouette.
I’m also loving these black strappy sandals. I purchased them for a wedding we went to last October and I’ve gotten more wear out of them than I had original figured for a bolder shoe. The simple color and comfortable heel makes these my go-to fancy sandal for nights out or events. Here are a couple similar pairs under $100 or under $35.
We finally had some 60* weather here in the city, so I’m hoping Spring is here for good and I’ll have more outfits to share! In the meantime, do you have a go-to look for weddings? How about any recommendations for comfy shoes that still look cute?
Excited for warmer weather
The temperature reached 50* twice this week and it feels like Spring is finally right around the corner. I can’t wait to start wearing sandals, short sleeves, and skirts! It’s still a little chilly for this outfit, so I also was wearing a jacket and scarf, but I wanted to show off this adorable top! I love the mint green shade, tiered bottom, and ruffled sleeves. Here are some similar options.
I’m not sure how well you will be able to see them, but I’m wearing these fun threader earrings my mom gave me. I think these are the perfect mix between dainty and statement earrings. They catch the light nicely and have a pretty movement to them as I walk around. This pair is really similar, but you can find these at BaubleBar and Nordstrom as well.
I’m also loving these jeans from Loft – I have the lightest wash and love the split hem detail. These fit like a dream and are super comfortable. The petite length perfectly grazes my ankle as well. I generally wear darker wash skinnies, so this lighter option is perfect for transitioning into spring and summer.
How do you feel about this mint color? What spring outfits are you looking forward to wearing?
