Drugstore Dud or Delight: Pixi Eye Reflection Shadow Palette in Natural Beauty

The perfect everyday palette

No secrets here: this one is a complete delight! I’ve exclusively been wearing the Natural Beauty Eye Reflection Shadow Palette since Pixi Beauty kindly sent this over a couple weeks ago. The shade selection is right up my alley and the formula is beautiful as well! I would highly recommend this palette, especially for $24.

The mattes and satins are soft without being powdery and they layer and blend out nicely. The shimmers are truly the star of the show here as they catch and reflect light better than any other drugstore shadow I’ve tried (and probably most of my expensive palettes too!). I apply the shimmers with my finger and get intense color and coverage in one swipe. You can also use a brush to diffuse the pigment a bit if you want something more subtle.

I’m loving the neutral color scheme with a great mix of warm- and cool-toned shades. There are a couple options for crease colors, the perfect matte bone shade, and several shimmers in a variety of depths. I love how you can create so many different looks with this palette! I’ve done a nice all matte look, a simple one shadow shimmer all over the lid, and even a dramatic smokey eye. Because it’s so versatile, I think this is an awesome every day palette and it would make a great travel option too.

Here are the swatches! From the top left we have Sheer Sand, Metal Mauve, and Petal. The second row is Antique Rose, Rose Clay, and Metallic Rose. Then there’s a warmer row with Deep Taupe, Foiled Bronze, and Soft Brown. Lastly, the bottom row is Chocolate Brown, Cocoa Shimmer, and Bronze Gleam.

I continue to be impressed with Pixi Beauty, you guys! The quality of everything I’ve tried is fantastic, plus the line is quite affordable and there’s the convenience of grabbing anything during your next Target run.

So there’s another delight this month! What have you been loving from the drugstore?

Morphe 15T Palette Review and Swatches

A colorful, wearable palette!

This is my very first Morphe palette thanks to BookSparks! I collaborated with them on this Instagram post and have been enjoying this palette so much that I wanted to share it here too. It’s the 15T Your True Selfie palette and it has a variety of warm brown, red, and orange tones along with a purple and the bottom row is full of green options. I love the color selection! It’s unique in my collection, but I find myself reaching for it quite often.

There are shimmers and mattes in this palette; in general, the shimmers are more consistently smooth and pigmented compared to the mattes. For example, #MorpheBabe, #StrikeAPose, and #Throwback all performed beautifully – they were pigmented with just one swipe, didn’t skip at all, and weren’t chalky. However, #IWokeUpLikeDis, #SorryNotSorry, #OOTD, and #RelationshipGoals felt slightly drier and the swatches were patchy. Thankfully, you can blend them out pretty well on the eyes, but I still prefer the first three.

The shimmers on the other hand were creamy and easy to swatch, plus they apply beautifully on the eyes with no fallout. The only shade that’s a little off is #DopePic; it’s more of a matte with glitter running through it and created that same patchy swatch.

Here are the swatches from my elbow up to my wrist:

  • #MorpheBabe
  • #StrikeAPose
  • #DopePic
  • #NoFilterNeeded
  • #BlendTheRules
  • #IWokeUpLikeDis
  • #SorryNotSorry
  • #OOTD
  • #Throwback
  • #RelationshipGoal
  • #Artist
  • #Before
  • #After
  • #WerkIt
  • #Glam

Here’s the look I created inspired by The Gilded Wolves cover! It’s a subtle smoky eye – something I would definitely wear on a night out. I’m more comfortable wearing “no makeup” makeup for every day, but I love playing with color and green is one of my favorites! I used #StrikeAPose, #WerkIt, #After, and a tiny bit of #NoFilterNeeded. I also went in with a matte cream shadow single for my brow bone – I think this palette is missing that along with a pale shimmer shade.

Overall, this palette is so versatile and you can create looks for both day and night, for work or play. The warm mattes make a great, simple look to define the eye while the shimmers catch the light in a beautiful, attention-grabbing way. You can keep it neutral or add pops of colors. For $16, I would definitely recommend it!

Kaleido Cosmetics Sponge Shadow and Vacay Vibes Palette – Swatches and Review

The most beautiful shadows!

Kaleido Cosmetics is a cruelty-free, vegan, ethically-sourced line with lots of beautiful, affordable products. They recently sent me a generous package and I’ve been testing everything for a couple weeks now. The eyeshadows have turned out to be my very favorite item from their collection, so I wanted to share my thoughts and some swatches.

Here are swatches of the Vacay Vibes Palette ($14). These are highly pigmented – I simply wiggled my finger for a second and then swiped once on my arm with little to no pressure. I would say the texture is like a pressed pigment – although there is hardly any fallout, except for with the shade Plankton. Overall I am very impressed with the quality of these shadows!

From the top we have Majesty, Element, Island, Plankton, Onda, and Eco-warrior. I love the names and theme of this palette. The colors are stunning and unique to my collection as well. I have similar golds, but these two are more bronze and more orange, respectively. My greens lean more forest green with yellow undertones while this is a deeper emerald. My red shades tend to be deeper burgundies while this is closer to rust. I don’t have anything like Plankton or Eco-warrior.

The palette itself is a thick and sturdy cardboard that magnetically closes. It has a nicely sized mirror on the inside and the same cute pattern on the outside. I know some people don’t like split pans, but these are large enough to fit even a fluffy crease brush into one color without dipping into the other. I think the duos are beautifully paired as well, so I really like the set up. If they were all single circular pans, the palette would be much larger and less travel friendly. Even as half pans, these are so pigmented that they will last me a very long time.

Next we have four of the Sponge Shadows ($9). These are a cream-powder hybrid texture and they feel bouncy in the pan. The name sponge totally makes sense and they remind me of the Kaja Beauty Mochi Glow Highlighters that I reviewed here.

I really love this formula because it’s easy to work with and gives a beautiful metallic finish without any fallout. I did want to note that I wore Pink Light on its own and it creased very easily. However, Furnace didn’t crease at all on me. To make things easy, I’ve just been using my Sephora Tinted & Cooling Eye Primer and that works perfectly with any shade.

Starting at the top is Furnace, Grunge, Fantasy, and Pink Light. Furnace is my favorite color of all of these shadows. It may seem boring, but it actually has a duochrome finish that catches the light in such a gorgeous way. My eyes are somewhat deeper set, so I can’t wear super dark colors; this is a medium brown with warm undertones, but the reflect is a light, cool-toned taupe. It’s so beautiful!

As a fan of green eyeshadow, the middle two shades are right up my alley. I think I’ll wear Grunge more than Fantasy because I don’t wear pastels that often. It does make a nice pop in the center of the lid though! Pink Light is a perfect one shadow look and also has somewhat of a duochrome finish in that it looks more gold or more pink depending on the angle.

These are single shadows in white, plastic packaging with a clear snap lid. I like how you can see the color without having to open each shade or check the back. There’s also a cute interwoven hexagon shape imprinted on each shadow.

Overall, I am loving Kaleido Cosmetics and would highly recommend their shadows, especially because they’re so affordable and cruelty-free!

Lather Body Care Review! Almond Creme Body Buff and Almond, Milk, & Honey Body Butter

My new favorite body care products!

I’ve been collaborating with Palm recently and the Lather picks have caught my eye each month! I first tried their Caviar Lime Cleansing Creme (reviewed here) and last month I got a chance to try a couple of their body care products. I chose the Almond Creme Body Buff and Almond, Milk, & Honey Body Butter.

If you can’t tell by their names, these smell delicious! They’re warm and gourmet scents, which are just perfect for this time of year. I basically want to smell like baked goods and the holidays once it hits 40* outside.

The body scrub is really lovely because the jojoba beads and walnut shell powder do a great job of exfoliating without being too abrasive. I hate scrubs that hurt! This one has a thick cream base which helps soften skin too. A little bit goes a long way, but I’m sure I’ll fly through this since I’m really enjoying it.

I’m even more obsessed with the body butter. I prefer a deeply hydrating body cream, but I hate feeling any greasy residue. This Almond, Milk, & Honey Body Butter feels very moisturizing, but sinks in within a few minutes. It’s the perfect medium between being too thick and hard to spread and too light and gel-like. I love how luxurious this feels and actually look forward to shaving so I can apply this!

I also love that Lather is cruelty-free and focuses on high-quality, natural ingredients versus packaging – although I am a fan of their colorful, yet minimal aesthetic. They invest 80% into the product itself, sourcing ingredients from all over the world and avoiding synthetic fragrances.

I’m really excited to keep trying Lather products because I love the three I’ve experienced so far! Have you ever used any of their products? If so, which is your favorite?

Makeup That Stays in my Purse – Fall Edition

Spilling what’s in my bag

If I’m ever missing a lipstick or gloss, the first place I check is my purse. I usually have a plethora of lip products in there at any given time. They’re the easiest way to switch up a look in my opinion. I also always have a little powder and some hand cream in a cute Glossier bubble pouch. So here are all of the beauty products I’m currently toting around:

Besame Vanilla Brightening Powder ($22) – this is my favorite setting powder. It looks so natural on the skin and the very slight yellow tint brightens beautifully. I like the packaging because it has a little cap inside that makes sure powder doesn’t fly everywhere and holds a soft powder puff for when you’re out and about. It also smells like vanilla.

Winky Lux Glazed Donut Lip Glaze in Berry Glaze ($13 – left swatch) – this gloss smells delicious. It’s a sheer purple tone with lots of shimmer. It catches the light beautifully and doesn’t feel gritty on the lips thankfully. I find it to be slightly moisturizing throughout the 2 hour wear time.

L’oreal Colour Riche Shine Lipstick in Sparkling Rose ($10 – 2nd from left) – this is a great everyday lipstick. The color is a medium pink with warm undertones that lightens my natural lip color. It feels like a lip balm and wears for about 3 hours.

Tocca Crema de Mano in Florence ($8) – I love this scent! It’s one of the only floral scents I really like wearing and it doesn’t give me a headache. Florence is the gardenia and xxx fragrance. This hand cream is moisturizing, but it’s not too thick, so it sinks in quickly.

Bite Agave Lip Mask in Maple ($26 – 2nd from right) – I’m sure you guys know by now how much I love these masks, so I’m sorry to be repetitive. Maple is a beautiful bronze color that looks really pretty and wearable on the lips. This is the most moisturizing lip product I’ve tried and it lasts for about 4 or 5 hours.

Tom Ford Soleil Lip Balm in 06 La Piscine ($36 – right swatch) – I love this vampy shade for fall. It is a tinted balm, so the color payoff is sheer, but I prefer that because it’s so low maintenance. It’s not very moisturizing, but the color lasts for over 4 hours.

So that’s what’s in my little purse makeup bag. The lip colors are constantly changing, so maybe I’ll do this seasonally!
