Loving this crisp weather!
October is my favorite month; I love that you can enjoy being outside without a thousand layers on. The weather is crisp and it’s still sunny quite often, so it’s lovely to walk around. I’ve always been drawn to water (I miss our view of Lake Michigan!), so I’m really thankful we can walk over to the Hudson River and enjoy the piers there.
These Dolce Vita suede sneakers are perfect for walking around the city. They’re really comfy and I love that they slip on easily. They’re also taller, so they cover my ankles, which is great when it’s chilly.
It may be a weird time of year to be getting into lighter colors, but I’ve been loving lighter wash denim lately. I usually wear dark or black denim during the week and then fun patterned or embellished pairs on the weekend. These are different for me because they have a clean finish without any distressing or rips, but the color is laid back. I also like the split hem at the bottom for a more casual finish. Mine are from Loft this past summer, but you can similar options here or here.
October is also the best time to wear cozy sweaters. Turtlenecks are my favorite because I’m usually cold if my neck and chest are exposed. This charcoal one is a mockneck and it’s chenille too, so it’s really snuggly. I’m also eyeing this beige one to finish out fall and this emerald one for the holidays.
I can’t believe it’s already Halloween tomorrow! This month has seriously flown by… A friend is coming to visit and I still have no idea what I’m going to dress up as… Any ideas? Are you dressing up this year?
Rounding up a few recent outfits
It was a really busy week for me, so here are some quick snapshots! My cousin visited for Memorial Day weekend and we had the best time running all over the city. The weather varied from perfect at 85 degrees and sunny to chilly and 65*, so my outfits incorporated both Spring and Summer styles. I’m still obsessed with my birthday jacket, picked up this adorable midi skirt, and am thoroughly enjoying the square neckline trend.
Loft lace trim cami, layered necklace
Scotch & Soda printed bomber, Loft split hem jeans, Nordstrom gold slides,
Kate Spade crossbody
Loft heather tank, fabric belt, J Crew shorts (sold out), black sandals
J Crew tank top, Loft midi skirt, Gunmetal bow slides
Loft square neck tank, dark wash jeans
What Spring and Summer trends have you been loving lately?
Relaxing in my old age 😉
I didn’t want any gifts for my birthday this year – instead I was so happy to have a laidback day full of my favorite foods and the new Avengers movie! We had Doughnut Project and Bantam Bagels for breakfast and then went to Tao for dinner. It was a dream.
While we were out and about, I spotted this jacket at Scotch & Soda and fell in love. S&S is one of my favorite stores – I love how they mix fabrics and textures and that their clothes usually have unique, thoughtful details.
For example, this bomber is actually reversible and done so in a really useful (versus cheesy) way. You can see a sliver of the triangle pattern here – it looks like a lining, but it’s actually the entire inside. I like that the patterns are so different but have a similar warm color scheme that I’m really into lately. Both sides also have pockets which is nice. So you basically get two jackets for the price.
By the way, how adorable is this Frenchie t-shirt?? I just had to wear it on my birthday because it makes me happy! My mom also sent me the matching socks because she’s the sweetest person ever.
I finished off the outfit with my favorite star jeans that I’m sure you guys are sick of hearing about… and new gold loafers that are so comfortable. Like I said, laidback but exactly what I wanted!
I hope you’re having a great week! It’s 80 degrees here which just feels amazing. What’s your weather like?
Wearing all blue
I’ve worn this striped sweater several times lately. It’s warm, but still lightweight and I love that the stripes line up at all of the seams. It’s something I look for when buying patterned pieces because it’s a sign of higher quality design and construction. I’m also still obsessed with these earrings… They go with every outfit and make a subtle statement! Can’t get enough. I linked some similar options in this post.
These Gap Girlfriend jeans are my favorite for casual looks. They fit a lot better than your typical boyfriend jeans – which can sometimes look silly or overwhelming on me because I’m so short. I also love the medium blue wash and statement pockets. Here’s a pair with similar distressed details. I cuffed mine to show off these shoes…
I’m finally wearing these booties I bought back in November! My sprain has almost completely healed, so anything with a heel is an option again! Spring starts next week, so velvet is now on the way out… but it’s supposed to snow tomorrow! So I think I can get away with them for a bit longer thankfully. Plus I love everything about these booties from the deep blue color to the floral embossed pattern. Here are some similar options if you’re looking for a fun style while it’s still chilly:
Sam Edelman Case Velvet Booties • Sam Edelman • $150
Vanessa Wu Metallic Booties • $99.95
Sam Edelman Petty Suede Booties • Sam Edelman • $65
Jack Rogers Jr Bailee Suede Booties • Jack Rogers • $64
Marc Fisher LTD. Women’s Cassidey2 Velvet Booties • Marc Fisher • $110.25
Are you guys ready for Spring? What are you most looking forward to wearing? You know I love my jeans, but I’m actually excited about dresses right now.
Loving the Spring-like weather
When it’s been freezing for months, anything over 50* seems like Spring here in the city, so I brought out this adorable blush scarf to celebrate! I love wearing these skinny scarves in my hair, tied onto my handbag, or as a belt. I think it’s a unique detail with a feminine touch. You can find tons of them on Etsy or in vintage stores, like this classic silk one or this sweet plaid version. I also love this fun leopard print and this gorgeous illustrated one.
I can’t remember where I got these earrings, but I love them! They look great with practically any outfit and they’re really lightweight, so I can wear them all day. Here are some more gorgeous delicate statement earrings: somewhat similar hematite, gold ones, this pair, and another fun option.
I’m not usually one for pastels, but I tend toward soft, girlier colors in the transitional months before Summer. This pink scarf from Loft actually has tiny pretzels all over it – so cute! I paired it with high-waisted jeans for a flattering silhouette, a plain black tee, and these comfy booties.
Are you guys getting excited for Spring? What’s your favorite color to wear in the warmer months?
